Grau FamilyEach member of the Grau Family, Monica, Bill, Maddie, and Grayson, hold a degree from SUNY Oneonta. Bill and Monica met at Oneonta and returned shortly after their graduation to raise their family in Oneonta. Bill and Monica have continuously supported the college and led by example. It is no surprise that both of their children chose to return to Oneonta and went on to receive degrees from the College.

First as a Residence Hall Director and then as Director of the First Year Experience and presently the Director of New Student Services, Monica has gone above and beyond to make students feel welcome and accepted into the Red Dragon Family. Her office is full of Red Dragon memorabilia and she is always proud to wear red. Similarly, Bill wears red on Fridays with pride. Bill has been employed by the college since 1994 by the Athletics Department as an Assistant Baseball coach. In addition, he has worked in the Admissions Office, the Registrar's Office, where he served as the Registrar, and currently serves as the Executive Director of the SICAS Center.

The Graus are constantly on the sidelines of sporting events and at student activities supporting our Red Dragon community. They have supported the college financially over the years and are members of the 1889 Society. Monica has been a dedicated volunteer for Alumni weekend and student/alumni career programs. Bill has been continuously involved in planning and participating in the Red Dragon Open and presently serves as the Committee Chair. Over the last 20 years, the Red Dragon Open has raised over $660,000 in scholarships for SUNY Oneonta students.

Maddie and Grayson, the newest members of the Red Dragon family in terms of graduation, have long been unofficial Red Dragons at athletic events and student sponsored events. They made the decision to return to SUNY Oneonta for their degrees because of the high quality of education and the engaging out of class experiences. They are still connected to the college through the Alumni Association and the friends they made while they pursued their degrees. They all continue to maintain relationships with many students turned alumni over the years and welcome alumni back to their ‘home’ at SUNY Oneonta every year during Alumni Weekend. The Grau’s believe it is important to give back to the place they have called home for so long- which is why they have been are a Red Dragon Spirt award recipient.
