To build a premier association that sustains lifelong relationships with alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends that supports the success of SUNY Oneonta.

Mission:

To connect, engage, support, and celebrate the graduates of the SUNY Oneonta and cultivate pride in SUNY Oneonta.

Strategic Theme #1

Connect all alumni with students, faculty and the broader college family through a range of programs and events.

A. Establish more affinity based-linkages between alumni and students.

  1. Cultivate legacy families with special programming and communications.
  2. Expand programs designed to engage alumni who are faculty and staff at the college.
  3. Maintain affinity-based linkages between alumni and students.

B. Develop comprehensive alumni engagement metrics to help make strategic programming and marketing decisions.

  1. Manage surveys, utilizing results to improve the quality of programs.
  2. Record alumni engagement data accurately and consistently.
  3. Implement and maintain Alumni Engagement Scores.

  • Number of active affinity groups.
  • Number of affinity group reunions hosted.
  • Number of first-time attendees at events.

Strategic Theme #2

Design, deliver, and promote programs that provide alumni meaningful ways to engage with the college, and with each other, over their lifetime.

A. Build a culture of volunteerism – giving of time and talents to assist the college, students, and fellow alumni.

  1. Provide a range of meaningful alumni volunteer opportunities and collaborate with campus partners to identify new opportunities.
  2. Identify and promote regional volunteer opportunities.

B. Develop regular communication with alumni to recruit, train, steward, and recognize volunteers.

  1. Provide orientation and training for volunteers including leadership volunteers.
  2. Regularly highlight alumni volunteers via communications (e.g., website, social media platforms, and electronic and print media).

Strategic Theme #3

Celebrate the accomplishments of alumni, students, faculty, staff, and emeriti.

A. Support a visible and dynamic awards program that recognizes our most highly engaged alumni so they are able to serve as an inspiration to our students.

  1. Continually revisit award criteria, process and outcomes to assure that award recognition programs are fresh, interesting, and reflect the worthiness of said awards.
  2. Provide detailed profiles of each award recipient, which will be on the website, social media platforms and electronic and print media.
  3. Visually promote Alumni of Distinction Honorees in all buildings on campus.

B. Develop a recognition program for current SUNY Oneonta students who are completing their senior year.

  1. Work closely with the 50-year reunion class to develop nomination criteria, process, and nominees to recognize 2-4 rising seniors.
  2. Recognize and promote students who have received scholarships on the website, social media platforms and electronic and print media.

  • Number of nominations received for award recognition programs.
  • Number of award winners and honorees profiled on the website, social media platforms and electronic and print media.
  • Number of student scholarship recipients profiled on the website, social media platforms and electronic and print media.
  • Number of Alumni of Distinction Honoree posters hung in buildings on campus.

Strategic Theme #4

Support alumni by providing access to a growing network of peers and facilitate their interactions amongst one another, with SUNY Oneonta and its students.

A. Increase opportunities for alumni to network with each other and our students.

  1. Actively involve alumni in recruitment programs on and off campus.
  2. Expand regional welcome receptions for recent graduates new to specific regions.
  3. Increase the presence of the Oneonta Future Alumni Network (OFAN) on campus as a bridge between alumni and students.

B. Increase the number of alumni who volunteer to mentor or advise current students, network with peers, and provide opportunities for internships and jobs. 

  1. Initiate and support efforts to bring alumni together for industry-specific networking.
  2. Design and promote a leadership conference for recent graduates.

C. Increase use of technology to encourage and enhance networking opportunities for students and alumni.

  1. Introduce and promote the Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK) blog.
  2. Introduce and promote an alumni virtual meetup program.
  3. Webcast Distinguished Alumni Lectures held on campus.

Strategic Theme #5

Cultivate a culture of pride and loyalty among students and alumni as well as the greater SUNY Oneonta community.

A. Continue to develop and preserve campus traditions.

  1. Create a suite of events that provides a yearlong celebration of the college’s 130th anniversary in 2019.
  2. Publish of book documents the college’s history from 1990-2015 in celebration of the college’s 130th anniversary.
  3. Recruit, select, and promote 30 recent graduates under 30 years old who have outstanding achievements or made significant contributions to their profession, community, or the college in conjunction with the college’s 130th anniversary.

B. Enhance efforts to cultivate class identity before students graduate.

  1. Introduce a senior class kick off program at the beginning of the year for seniors.
  2. Invite the class that came to the college 50 years ago to engage with current students at class events and through social media platforms.
  3. Invite representatives from the class that came to the college 50 years ago to send a welcome letter to incoming students.
  4. Maintain current class programs that cultivate class identity.

Metrics

  • Number of students and alumni participating in Senior Class Countdown to Commencement events.
  • Number of students and alumni participating in the Sophomore Class Half-Way to Commencement event.
  • Number of students and alumni participating in the Junior Class ¾ to Commencement Event.
  • Number of nominations received for the 30 Under 30 program.
