Alumni Weekend Schedule of Events

We are hoping Red Dragons near and far are able to join us from June 10 through June 12 for a special lineup of events! We are continuing to work out some of the details for each of these events and adding more to the schedule. Check back for changes!

Friday, June 10
7:00 a.m. - Golf Tournament
Oneonta Country Club • 9 Country Club Road
Join SUNY Oneonta alumni and friends at the Oneonta Country Club for a day of captain and crew golf. The day will begin at 7 a.m. with a breakfast buffet in the clubhouse. We will kick off the tournament with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. If you do not have a team, we will match you with other players. Prizes will be awarded at the luncheon.
Registration is required. $100

Following the tournament, enjoy lunch in the clubhouse, overlooking the beautiful grounds at the Oneonta Country Club. Lunch is included for tournament participants, who can invite guests to join them for an additional fee.

10:00 a.m. - Alumni Expedition: Otsego Lake Tour
Thayer Boathouse Launch • 7016 State Highway 80 Springfield, N.Y.
Spend the morning in Cooperstown discovering the secrets of Otsego Lake aboard the research vessel Anodontoides, where you will learn about advances in lake science that are changing the way we live, work, and play. If you would like to participate in both the Otsego Lake Tour and the Biological Field Station Tour, we encourage you to bring a bag lunch.

Check-in for the weekend officially begins! Alumni Weekend Headquarters is the information and problem-solving center for Alumni Weekend 2022. Have a question about an event? Noon - 2:00 p.m. - Alumni Expedition: Paddlefest
Join Director of Outdoor Progams Chris Shughrue for an Oneonta paddling experience you won't want to miss. Equipment will be provided to participants.
Registration is required.


Noon - 1:30 p.m. - Drag ’n Go Lunch
Stop by, grab a lunch, and build a dragon! This is a family-fun activity. Enjoy the view of the Hunt Union pond and take home your very own Red Dragon.

Noon - 2:00 p.m. - ITK Luncheon
The Otesaga Resort Hotel • The Hawkeye Bar & Grill 60 Lake St. • Cooperstown, N.Y.
Members of Iota Tau Kappa (ITK) are invited to an informal luncheon on the patio of The Hawkeye Bar & Grill, overlooking beautiful Otsego Lake.

Noon - Tennis Tournament
Join us for the annual Alumni Weekend Tennis Tournament. Bring your racquet; we will supply tennis balls and prizes! For more information, contact Bill Bogatz ’74 at econ@optonline.net.

A.J. Read Science Discovery Center, Physical Science
The A.J. Read Science Discovery Center is a free, hands-on museum for people of all ages and abilities. Its mission is to connect visitors to the joy and power of the scientific process through authentic and interactive exihibits. Spots are limited for each of these family-friendly, hands-on sessions.

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - The Magic of Science, Session 2
A.J. Read Science Discovery Center, Physical Science
The A.J. Read Science Discovery Center is a free, hands-on museum for people of all ages and abilities. Its mission is to connect visitors to the joy and power of the scientific process through authentic and interactive exihibits. Spots are limited for each of these family-friendly, hands-on sessions.

2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Alumni Expedition: Biological Field Station Tour
Lakeside Farm and Upland Interpretive Center 7027 State Highway 80 • Springfield, N.Y.
Join us for a tour of the Hop House, Upland Interpretive Center, and other Thayer Farm buildings. If you would like to participate in both the Otsego Lake Tour and the Biological Field Station Tour, we encourage you to bring a bag lunch.
Registration is required.


2:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. - Campus Tour
Take a 45-minute guided walk around campus and see how the campus has changed, yet retained its traditional beauty. The tour will leave promptly from Morris Conference Center at 2:30 p.m. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
This event is on a first-come, first-served basis.

3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. - SOURS @ The Fox
The Copper Fox • 7 Market St.
Live it up like the good ol’ days and join us for an Oneonta tradition: SOURS at the Fox. All alumni are welcome to celebrate, reminisce, and reconnect with their friends. Cash bar and complimentary appetizers will be available.

4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. - Alumni Association Annual Meeting
Alumni Association Board President Christine Warnquist '71 invites you to join us for the Alumni Association Annual Meeting, which will include updates from the Alumni Association Board of Directors and the election of new board members.
All SUNY Oneonta alumni are encouraged to attend.


5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - Golden Anniversary Reception
Members of the Half Century Club will welcome back to campus members of the Classes of 1970-72. Light refreshments will be served.
Attendance is for members of the Classes of 1970-72 and their invited guests only.
Registration is required.


6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. - Cans ’n Clams Picnic
Kick off Alumni Weekend and summer with the fan favorite meal of the weekend! The all-you-can-eat dinner will not only transport you to the shores of New England with the menu — including steamed and fried clams, clam chowder, various sliders, coleslaw, corn on the cob, and desserts — but also feature live, local entertainment by Gable, Banks, and Decker. The first two drinks of beer or wine and all non-alcoholic beverages are included; a cash bar will be available.

7:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. - ITK: Drinks and Revelry
The Oneonta Vets Club • 279 Chestnut St.
Iota Tau Kappa (ITK) brothers are invited to reminisce about their days “downtown” while playing pool and darts and enjoying drinks and snacks. Cash bar and snacks will be available.

8:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. - Return to the RAT
After Cans ’n Clams, head down to the Rathskeller Pub (Waterfront) for its Alumni Weekend return. Reconnect and reminisce with friends and classmates and let the music transport you back to the glory days! A cash bar and light refreshments will be available.

Join your fellow alumni plus faculty, staff, and friends as we celebrate our 2022 Alumni Association Award winners and a successful year of alumni-led initiatives, partnerships, and programming. Hear how alumni volunteers have enhanced the Red Dragon experience on campus and beyond. Our pinnacle milestone classes (1970+2) will be recognized during this program as well. Breakfast is included.

Visitors will find delicious, locally grown farm products from the field to the table.


10:45 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Campus Tour
Take a 45-minute guided walk around campus and see how the campus has changed, yet retained its traditional beauty. The tour will leave promptly from Morris Conference Center at 10:45 a.m. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
This event is on a first-come, first-served basis.

11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Alumni Expedition: Mountain Bike Ride
Riders: Check in at Alumni Weekend Headquarters for any last-minute updates, grab a route map, and fill your water bottle. Ed Lorenz ’81 will lead the ride; for more information, email alumni@oneonta.edu.

12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Red Dragon BBQ
Bringing the world-famous BBQ to you! The most talked about meal in town comes to campus; you’ll have a choice of the famous Brooks’ chicken dinner, a pulled pork dinner, or a chicken/pulled pork combo dinner. Vegetarian and vegan meals are available upon request. Along with the delicious lunch, there will be entertainment and music! Before heading out to other Alumni Weekend events, be sure to stop by the dessert table. A cash bar will be available.

1:30 p.m. - Red Dragon Cornhole Tournament
Think you have what it takes to be the Red Dragon Cornhole champ? Sign up for the cornhole tournament and show off your skills.

2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Alumni Expedition: Nature Hike
College Camp is a campus gem. Made possible by President Royal F. Netzer (1951-70), this 276-acre piece of land is the site of several trails and a lodge. Hiking enthusiast and ITS Service Manager Jesse Arno will lead a hike up to College Camp. Those hiking up can either complete the round trip or catch a shuttle from College Camp down to campus.

2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Athletic Hall of Fame Induction
The SUNY Oneonta Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee invites you to join us as new inductees unveil their plaques. 2021 Hall of Fame inductees are Lee Aldrich ’63 (Soccer, Tennis); Andrea Bradford-Decker ’01 (Softball); Patricia M. Kennedy ’71 (Swimming and Diving); Lou Neira ’89 (Basketball); Mary Velan ’08 (Soccer, Track and Field); Chris Williams ’93 (Baseball); and Dr. Barton Ingersoll (Honorary).

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Netzer Planned Giving Society Tea Party
Join Netzer Society members and their guests for a planned giving information session and tea party. SUNY Oneonta’s own Kathy Schmid ’79, Sodexo’s Argo Tea manager, will guide us in sampling teas from around the world. Enjoy casual conversations in the beautiful SUNY Oneonta Welcome Center. Discover how planned gifts have enhanced the SUNY Oneonta campus and support educational programs. Learn how to support SUNY Oneonta with a planned gift and become a member of the Netzer Planned Giving Society.

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Class of 1970+2 Toast at the Pillars
Pillars Quad between Fitzelle and Fine Arts
The Classes of 1970-72 will gather to toast friendships started 50+ years ago. Members of the celebrating classes and their invited guests only. A class photo will be taken for each class starting at 3:15 p.m., so please be at the pillars by that time to be included.

3:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - ITK: Memorial Service
Neahwa Park
Join the Oneonta Veterans Color Guard at a ceremony to remember Robert Cicio ’68 and Kevin Coulman ’77, who lost their lives defending our country. The ceremony is also in remembrance of all other Iota Tau Kappa (ITK) brothers who are deceased. It will be held at the Veterans Memorial Walk monument and led by Charter Member Lt. Col. Pete Dorn ’71.


5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. - Alumni of Distinction Presentation of Honors for 2020 and 2021 Honorees
The SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association will honor select alumni who have distinguished themselves through their careers, service to their communities, and commitment to the College at this evening celebration. Join us for dinner, open bar (beer and wine), and musical entertainment as we celebrate our most notable alumni. All alumni and friends are welcome.
Registration is required.
Each honoree and one guest are invited to register at no cost. We also invite members of the 1889 Society and one guest to attend at no cost. Additional tickets may be purchased for a fee.

6:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. - ITK 55th Anniversary Banquet
Members of Iota Tau Kappa (ITK) will celebrate 55 years of brotherhood at Oneonta during this special dinner. ITK memorabilia and a memorial table will be on display. The event features a multimedia presentation and ceremony. Cash bar available.

Perna Science Building Lobby
Join staff of the SUNY Oneonta Planetarium for a journey into the cosmos in our state-of-the-art digital planetarium. Following the program, enjoy sundaes on the first floor of the Perna Science Building.
Seating is limited to 28 for each session, so please register to help us accommodate all participants.


8:00 p.m. - Pub & Grub Trail
Downtown Oneonta
Grab your favorite swag and head to the heart of Oneonta — downtown! Stop by your old haunt for a pint, enjoy a “cold cheese slice” at your favorite pizzeria, or visit a new establishment.
This is a self-guided event, but in order to get discounts, registration for Alumni Weekend is required.

8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - Stars & Sundaes 2

Join staff of the SUNY Oneonta Planetarium for a journey into the cosmos in our state-of-the-art digital planetarium. Following the program, enjoy sundaes on the first floor of the Perna Science Building.

8:30 p.m. - Sunset Toast: A Celebration of Love
Some met in class, others in residence halls, and still others by chance after graduation. But all alumni couples have one thing in common: They met and fell in love because of shared experiences at SUNY Oneonta. Whether you are recently married or celebrating 60 years and counting, please join us as we celebrate all Red Dragons in love! Couples are invited to a Sunset Toast, which will include a champagne toast, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a chance to share your stories.

9:00 p.m. - Drag ’n Bingo
B Side Ballroom & Supper Club • 1 Clinton Plaza Drive
Join us at the B Side Ballroom & Supper Club for a night of incomparable entertainment and bingo! Enjoy a night of bingo, beverages, and drag queens while you learn about the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center and how it supports students at SUNY Oneonta. Ticket includes three rounds of bingo cards and your first beer or wine.
