Alumni Weekend Schedule of Events

We are hoping Red Dragons near and far are able to join us from June 9 through June 11 for a special lineup of events! We are continuing to plan and develop an inclusive suite of programs. Check back for changes!

Thursday, June 8

5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Libations in the Lobby
Calling all Red Dragons in Tobey Hall! Gather for a beverage in the lobby before heading downtown to your old haunts. Reminisce and share what you are looking forward to most this Alumni Weekend!

8:00 p.m. - Live Music
B Side Ballroom & Supper Club • 1 Clinton Plaza Drive
Jump start Alumni Weekend early with live music at b side ballroom & supper club, formally known as The General Clinton Pub, with proprietors Wayne '91 and Rebecca '90 Carrington.

Friday, June 9

7:00 a.m. - Golf Tournament
Oneonta Country Club • 9 Country Club Road
Join SUNY Oneonta alumni and friends at the Oneonta Country Club for a morning of captain and crew golf. The day will begin at 7 a.m. with a breakfast buffet in the clubhouse. We will kick off the tournament with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. If you do not have a team, we will match you with other players. Following the tournament, enjoy lunch in the clubhouse, overlooking the beautiful grounds at the Oneonta Country Club. Prizes will be awarded at the luncheon.
Registration is required. $100

Lunch is included for tournament participants, who can invite guests to join them for an additional fee.
Registration for guests at the luncheon is required.

10:00 a.m. - Alumni Expedition: Otsego Lake Tour
Thayer Boathouse Launch • 7016 State Highway 80 Springfield, N.Y.
Spend the morning in Cooperstown discovering the secrets of Otsego Lake aboard the research vessel Anodontoides, where you will learn about advances in lake science that are changing the way we live, work, and play. If you would like to participate in both the Otsego Lake Tour and the Biological Field Station Tour, we encourage you to bring a bag lunch. Please register for this event to help us appropriately accommodate all participants.

10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Alumni Art Display
Join gallery director Sarah Simpson to view art created by your fellow Red Dragons! Artwork includes a variety of mediums, so stop in and view the talented creations that have been left behind.

10:00 a.m. - Scavenger Hunt
Put on your walking shoes and explore SUNY Oneonta’s campus to see how it’s changed over time. This scavenger hunt takes you around campus by solving riddles. Submit your photos to show you found the answer to each clue, and receive a prize!
To play the scavenger hunt:
1.    Pick-up your clue card at Alumni Weekend HQ in Morris Hall.
2.    Create your team and start your hunt!
3.    Submit your photos and the names of your team players to alumni@oneonta.edu by 6/15.

Noon - 4:30 p.m. - Relive and Remember the Past: Alden Room Open House
Alden Room, Milne Library
Come visit the Alden Room, 300 Milne Library, and relive the past. Furniture from Old Main, memorabilia, yearbooks, student newspapers, and other treasures will be on display and available for browsing. Enjoy the ambiance and comfortable seating as you reminisce with friends. Heather Stalter and others from the Library’s Special Collections Team will be available to welcome guests.

Noon - 2:00 p.m. - Paddlefest
Hunt Union Pond
Join Chris Shughrue, Director of Outdoor Programs, for an Oneonta paddling experience you won't want to miss. Paddle on the pond and experience Hunt Union from a new perspective! Equipment will be provided to participants. Paddle time will be limited to ensure everyone gets some time on the pond.

Noon - 2:00 p.m. - Build-a-Dragon Lunch
Waterfront, Hunt Union
Build your very own Red Dragon! This is a family-fun activity. Watch alumni paddle on the pond at Hunt Union, enjoy lunch, and build your very own dragon to take home as a keepsake.

Noon - Tennis Tournament

Join us for the annual Alumni Weekend Tennis Tournament. Bring your racquet; we will supply tennis balls and prizes! For more information, contact Bill Bogatz ’74 at econ@optonline.net.

A.J. Read Science Discovery Center, Physical Science
The A.J. Read Science Discovery Center is a free, hands-on museum for people of all ages and abilities. Its mission is to connect visitors to the joy and power of the scientific process through authentic and interactive exhibits. Spots are limited for each of these family-friendly, hands-on sessions.

Join us for a tour of the Hop House, Upland Interpretive Center, and other Thayer Farm buildings. If you would like to participate in both the Otsego Lake Tour and the Biological Field Station Tour, we encourage you to bring a bag lunch.

2:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. - Campus Tour
Take a 45-minute guided walk around campus, and see how it has changed yet retained its traditional beauty. The tour will leave promptly from Morris Conference Center at 2:30 p.m. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
This event is on a first-come, first-served basis.

3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. - SOURS @ The Fox
The Copper Fox • 7 Market St.
Relive the good ol’ days and join us for an Oneonta tradition: SOURS at the Fox. All alumni are welcome to celebrate, reminisce, and reconnect with their friends. Cash bar and complimentary appetizers will be available.

4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. - Alumni Association Annual Meeting
Alumni Association Board President Drew McKay '05 invites you to join us for the Alumni Association Annual Meeting, which will include updates from the Alumni Association Board of Directors and the election of new board members.
All SUNY Oneonta alumni are encouraged to attend.


5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - Golden Anniversary Reception
Members of the Half Century Club will welcome back to campus members of the Class of 1973. Light refreshments will be served.
Attendance is for members of the Half Century Club, the Class of 1973, and their invited guests only.

6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. - Cans ’n Clams Dinner
Chase Gym
Kick off Alumni Weekend with the fan favorite meal of the weekend! The all-you-can-eat dinner will transport you to the shores of New England with the menu — including steamed and fried clams, clam chowder, various sliders, coleslaw, corn on the cob, and desserts. The first two drinks of beer or wine and all non-alcoholic beverages are included; a cash bar will be available.

7:30 p.m. - Drag'n Show
The Black Oak Tavern • 14 Water St.
Join Ryan Harrington ’04, Callie Reardon ’21, and fellow Red Dragons for a night of pride trivia, lip-synching, and dancing! Ticket includes your first beer or glass of wine. Seating is limited, so please register to help us accommodate all participants.

8:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. - Return to the RAT
After Cans ’n Clams, head down to the Rathskeller Pub (Waterfront) for its Alumni Weekend revival. View the brick garden on the patio, enjoy light refreshments, listen to some nostalgic music, and share your memories from when Hunt Union had a bar! A cash bar will be available.

Saturday, June 10

Join your fellow alumni plus faculty, staff, and friends as we celebrate our 2023 Alumni Association Award winners and a successful year of alumni-led initiatives, partnerships, and programming. Hear how alumni volunteers have enhanced the Red Dragon experience on campus and beyond. Our pinnacle milestone class of 1973 will be recognized during this program as well. Breakfast is included.

Think you have what it takes to be the Red Dragon Cornhole champ? Take on the winner from 2023, Daren Rylewicz '93, and be the new reigning champion. Sign up for the cornhole tournament and show off your skills.

10:45 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Campus Tour
Take a 45-minute guided walk around campus, and see how it has changed yet retained its traditional beauty. The tour will leave promptly from Morris Conference Center at 10:45 a.m. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

11:00 a.m. - Athletic Hall of Fame Induction
The Otsego Grille, Morris Conference Center
The SUNY Oneonta Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee invites you to join us in celebrating our newest inductees. 2023 Hall of Fame inductees will unveil their plaques at this celebratory event.

Dewar Arena, Alumni Field House
Bringing the world-famous BBQ to you! The most talked about meal in town comes to campus; you’ll have a choice of the famous Brooks’ chicken lunch, a pulled pork lunch, or a chicken/pulled pork combo lunch. Vegetarian and vegan meals are available upon request. Along with the delicious lunch, there will be entertainment and music! Before heading out to other Alumni Weekend events, be sure to stop by the dessert table. A cash bar will be available.

A class photo will be taken promptly starting at 3:15 p.m., so please arrive by that time to be included.

3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Sigma Tau Alpha Reception
Members of Sigma Tau Alpha will celebrate 75 years of brotherhood at Oneonta during this reception. Join Paul Martin ’71 and Ed Erickson ’67, along with other members, for a reception. Memorabilia will be on display and a cash bar will be available. Sigma Tau Alpha members and their invited guests only. Registration is required.


4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. - Netzer Planned Giving Society: An Evening With the Flakers
Join Netzer Society members and their guests for fun-filled performances with members of the Snow Flake (alumni from 1981–86). Enjoy performances by theatre graduates who met through Mask and Hammer. Discover how planned gifts enhance the SUNY Oneonta campus and support educational programs. Learn how to support SUNY Oneonta with a planned gift and become a member of the Netzer Planned Giving Society. Registration is required.

Some met in class, others in residence halls, and still others by chance after graduation. But all alumni couples have one thing in common: They met and fell in love because of shared experiences at SUNY Oneonta. Whether you are recently married or celebrating 60 years and counting, please join us as we celebrate all Red Dragons in love! Couples are invited to a Sunset Toast, which will include a champagne toast, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a chance to share your stories.
